My name is Julie Hurst, and I will be your child's teacher.

I taught Kindergarten at WAES last year, and I love this age group! The students enjoy coming to school & learning, and I have to admit I enjoy teaching them! This year, I will be teaching students Kindergarten & some first grade skills in preparation for next year. We will be doing a lot of READING, Writing, & Math, and I will tie in our Science & Social Studies into our seasonal/thematic units. For example, we will learn about pumpkins in the fall, snowflakes in the winter, China in January, and Martin Luther King Jr. in February.

I believe that children learn best when they are having fun. If you come to visit our classroom, you will see students working with literacy centers (games & activities that reinforce reading skills), reading, listening to books on tape, singing & dancing, writing stories, and adding & subtracting numbers to 20 using frogs, dinosaurs, farm animals, or whatever fun objects we get our hands on throughout the year.

I am here for YOUR CHILD. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any information, or if you'd like to schedule a conference to see how your child is progressing. I also love to have adult volunteers in the classroom. If you are free during any of the school hours and would like to help out, please let me know. If you are interested in helping our class in other ways... cutting out letters, putting together word games, recording books on tape, etc, please let me know! I would love to have you work with us! :)
